Today, Ubisoft announced their newest project: an upcoming free-to-play arena shooter set in the universe of the Tom Clancy franchise. The new arena FPS is titled Tom Clancy’s XDefiant and it will be headed to PC and consoles following a series of closed play tests, the first of which is scheduled to take place this August.

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is a 6v6 arena shooter that features characters, factions, and abilities inspired by the Tom Clancy universe. Gameplay consists of a combination of fast-paced arena combat with faction-based abilities. You can check out the action in the new reveal trailer above.
“During the past 21 years, the Tom Clancy universe has become a major part of Ubisoft’s history and a reference for tactical shooters and immersive universes,” reads Ubisoft’s latest press release. “Ubisoft is proud to announce the expansion of the Tom Clancy universe with a game that will let all the fans play with – and against – some of the most recognizable maverick groups from across fan-favorite franchises.”
XDefiant will be coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game will also be available via Stadia, Luna, and Ubisoft Connect. XDefiant will support full cross-play at launch, according to Ubisoft.
Although no release date was given, fans can get their hands on XDefiant as early as August 5, 2021, when the first XDefiant closed test will take place on PC. Those interested in participating in the closed test can register to do so over on the XDefiant website. Additional play tests will be held later this year.
