Atmospheric indie survival game This War of Mine has reached a huge milestone, selling more than 4.5 million units worldwide across all platforms since the game’s initial launch. The news comes by way of independent developer 11 Bit Studios after they shared an insightful infographic detailing various facts about the game, which you can look over below.
This War of Mine’s largest market is in the United States, according to the infographic. The game has been a global success, however, winning more than 100 awards in the process. The game even sold a single copy to one lucky gamer on Christmas Island.
This War of Mine follows the life of various civilians who must struggle to survive in a war-torn city. Players must fight to keep their wits about them as they struggle to survive amidst a lack of food, medicine, and poverty. The game allows players to experience war from a unique perspective, one that shows the hardships of those left behind after the fighting stops.

Pay It Forward
Not only has the game’s success allowed 11 Bit Studios thrive as an indie game publisher, it has also prompted them to give back to a worthy cause. The studio has donated more than $500,000 to War Child, a charity that helps empower children who live in areas affected by war. The game’s DLC, The Little Ones, shifts the player’s perspective to that of a child, making this charity particularly fitting.
This War of Mine has also reached the mobile realm with This War of Mine: Stories, a new standalone expansion that redelivers the experience of the original game as a series of narrative-driven episodes.
The first episode, The Father’s Promise, tells a “heartbreaking tale of loss and hope in a war-torn city.” Episode two, The Last Broadcast, changes the player’s perspective once more as they take on the role of a radio operator faced with various moral quandaries. The season will conclude with one more episode, which is scheduled to release later this year.
This War of Mine is available on basically every major gaming platform. These include PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android. To learn more about the game and other titles from 11 Bit Studios, head over to their official website.
