The next-generation version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been delayed until further notice, developer CD Projekt Red announced today. The next-gen upgrade will bring The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with various visual enhancements. The Complete Edition was expected to arrive in Q2 2022, according to a 2021 earnings report from CD Projekt Red. The studio has since stated in a tweet that they will be taking over development on the next-gen version of the game. Saber Interactive had previously been in charge of development on the project.
“We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” the tweet reads. “We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice.”
“We’ll update you as soon as we can. Thank you for your understanding.”
The company did not elaborate on the decision to move to in-house development for the next-gen version of The Witcher 3. No release date was given, so there is no telling when players will be able to experience the enhanced edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
When the time comes, those who already own the game on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 will get to upgrade to the Complete Edition for free. Players can also look forward to DLC inspired by The Witcher Netflix series. Stay tuned to Guide Stash for updates.
