Bethesda has decided to delay both Starfield and Redfall, the studio announced today. Starfield was initially scheduled to release on November 11, 2022, while Redfall was expected to arrive in September 2022. Both titles will now release in the first half of 2023.
The news came via a tweet from the official Bethesda account earlier today with text that says, “An update on Redfall and Starfield.” The tweet also includes an image with a block of text explaining Bethesda’s reasoning behind the decision to delay the two games. The text says the following:
“We’ve made the decision to delay the launches of Redfall and Starfield to the first half of 2023.
“The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them.
“We want to thank everyone for their excitement for Redfall and Starfield. That energy is a huge part of what inspires all of us every day and drives our own excitement for what we are creating.
“We can’t wait to share our first deep dive into the gameplay for both Redfall and Starfield soon.
“Thank you for your support.”
No real reason was given to justify the delay, other than to ensure the games are polished. As for the gameplay deep-dives, Bethesda likely has plans to showcase both games during the upcoming Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, which is scheduled for June 12.
