Electronic Arts has just announced Star Wars: Squadrons, a first-person space combat game headed to consoles and PC later this year. The official gameplay reveal for Star Wars: Squadrons arrives on June 18 during the EA Play Live presentation, which begins at 4:00 pm PT. EA has enlisted Motive Studios to develop the game in collaboration with LucasFilm.
Star Wars: Squadrons features a single-player campaign that takes place during the final days of the Galactic Empire, just after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. In Star Wars: Squadrons, players take on the role of an advanced starfighter pilot who must take to the skies to battle the opposition head-on.

Players engage in intense space dogfights while piloting iconic starfighters from the series from both the New Republic and Imperial fleets. Pilotable starships featured in the game include the X-Wing and TIE Fighter. The game features smaller 5v5 multiplayer skirmishes as well as large-scale fleet battles. Pilots will complete various objectives throughout the galaxy and visit brand new locations along the way, including the shattered moon of Galitan and the gas giant Yavin Prime.
“We created this game for every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favorite starfighter,” said Motive Studios Creative Director Ian Frazier in a recent press release. “Through the collaboration of the teams at Motive and Lucasfilm, we’ve been able to create a high-fidelity starfighter experience with an authentic storyline that invites Star Wars fans to explore never-before-seen corners of the galaxy in their own ship. We’re excited to show all this in action this week at EA Play Live.”
Star Wars: Squadrons releases on October 2, 2020 for $39.99. The game will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, Origin, and Epic Games Store. Squadrons can also be played in Virtual Reality on PS4 and PC with cross-play support. Star Wars: Squadrons is currently available for pre-order.
