PlayStation’s February State of Play showcase featured a slew of trailers for new indie games as well as a few titles we haven’t heard about in a while. One of those games is Solar Ash, the next game coming from Heart Machine, the developers behind 2016’s Hyper Light Drifter. Although the new Solar Ash trailer reveals gameplay captured on the PlayStation 5, the game is also headed to PS4 and PC sometime this year.
Solar Ash Gameplay Reveal
Previously known as Solar Ash Kingdom, Solar Ash is a third-person action platformer that focuses on speed and mobility. Though the game is set in the same universe as Hyper Light Drifter, it is not a direct sequel. The world contains a number of distinct locations including sunken cities and treacherous lava regions. Solar Ash features fast-paced movement that emphasizes fluidity and speed above all else.
You play as Rei, a Voidrunner who hopes to save her home from being swallowed by the Ultravoid. As you glide and drift through the colorful world, you will encounter massive creatures that often require speed and precision to defeat. These enemy encounters culminate with sentinel battles that are the key to saving Rei’s home. Luckily, Rei is incredibly agile and is capable of swiftly maneuvering through the environment with ease. “At its core, Solar Ash is a game about movement, and Rei has everything she needs to flow through the dangerous and unique world,” explains Alex Preston, Creative Director at Heart Machine.
Solar Ash will release for PS5, PS4, and PC via Epic Games Store sometime in 2021. To stay up to date on the game’s development, head over to the Heart Machine website. Stay tuned to Guide Stash for more updates.
