Today, publisher Devolver Digital announced Return to Monkey Island, the long-awaited sequel to Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge. Return to Monkey Island is scheduled to release sometime this year, according to the game’s announcement trailer, which is available below.

Lucasfilm Games has returned to publish Return to Monkey Island alongside Devolver Digital, according to the teaser trailer. Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman, two of the original Monkey Island designers, will be returning to work on Return to Monkey Island, with Gilbert’s studio Terrible Toybox leading development. The announcement trailer also mentions that Dominic Armato will be reprising his role as protagonist Guybrush Threepwood in the upcoming sequel.
Not much else is known about Return to Monkey Island other than that it is “coming in 2022.” Those interested in keeping up with the game’s development should keep an eye on the game’s official website for updates.
