Latios first made its appearance in Pokémon GO just a little over a year ago and is now back for a special Raid week.

Starting Monday, April 15, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. PDT and ending Monday, April 22 1:00 p.m. PDT, you’ll have the chance to battle and catch the Legendary Dragon and Psychic-type Pokémon Latios.

Since Latios is Dragon and Psychic-type, you’ll have plenty of counters to choose from. You will want a strong line-up of Dragon and Ice-type Pokémon. Take a look at the Pokémon and the moves you will want in your lineup.

  • Rayquaza – Dragon Tail and Outrage.
  • Dragonite – Dragon Tail and Outrage.
  • Palikia – Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor.
  • Salamence – Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor.
  • Mamoswine (Bebop) – Powder Snow and Avalanche.
  • Latios – Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw.
  • Tyranitar – Bite and Crunch.

While Tyranitar is not a Dragon or Ice-type, it does know Dark-type moves that will work wonderfully against Latios and its Psychic-type side. Tyranitar is best used as a last resort Pokémon due to it being a tank and being able to absorb a lot of damage.

With these counters, you should have no issue in beating Latios and getting the chance to catch it.

Lucky trainers will also have the chance at catching the Shiny Variant of Latios, adding yet another Shiny Pokémon to their collection.

Niantic is doing a great job at bringing back Legendary Pokémon back to raids, and I hope they continue to do so, as it will give trainers a chance of experiencing what it is like to battle these Legendaries in Pokémon GO if they haven’t before.
