Mei Removed From Overwatch 2 Due to Ice Wall Bug

Players will have to wait a couple of weeks before Mei is available again.

Blizzard has removed yet another hero from Overwatch 2 due to a game-breaking bug. This time, it’s Mei who has been temporarily axed due to a glitch with her Ice Wall ability. Mei is expected to return to Overwatch 2 with the next patch update, which is scheduled for November 15.

Mei’s Ice Wall ability was allowing players to reach places that Blizzard didn’t intend, according to a statement from Blizzard’s customer service account on Twitter. “We are temporarily disabling Mei to address a bug with her Ice Wall ability that allows heroes to reach unintended locations,” reads the tweet. “We are working to address these issues as quickly as possible and aim to bring Mei back in our next upcoming patch which is set for November 15.”

A clip uploaded to the Overwatch 2 subreddit shows the exploit in action. Mei is able to use her Ice Wall to get outside of map boundaries on Busan.  This results in being able to attack enemies without being visible or accessible.

Mei is not the first hero to have been removed from Overwatch 2 since its October launch. Torbjörn and Bastion were both removed within the first couple weeks of the game being out due to serious bugs of their own. Both heroes have since returned to the game.

Blizzard said in a recent blog post that they are not planning any immediate hero balance changes until closer to Season Two, which kicks off in December. Head over to the Blizzard website for more hero balancing news and updates.
