On Monday, developer Player First Games announced that the MultiVersus Open Beta will be coming to a close in June and that the game will relaunch sometime in early 2024.
The MultiVersus Open Beta will end on June 25, 2023. The game will be offline following that date, meaning all online modes will be unplayable. However, the game will be removed from digital storefronts much sooner on April 4, which is also when Gleamium, the in-game currency of MultiVersus, will become unavailable for purchase. MultiVersus will remain playable to those who have downloaded the game prior to the April 4 cut-off date. Players will still have limited offline access to The Lab training room as well as local matches and characters after the game goes offline in June.
“Throughout our Open Beta, we’ve been working hard to build the best gameplay experience, and we appreciate all of the inspiration you’ve given us,” said MultiVersus Game Director Tony Huynh. “Our Open Beta has been an important learning opportunity for us and a stepping stone to the next phase of MultiVersus.”
The announcement acknowledges the lack of new characters and updates, noting an intention to do better going forward. “We know there’s still a lot of work to do. As a result, we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements.”
The developers intend to look into adjusting the current progression system in MultiVersus once the Open Beta ends. “We’ll also be reworking the progression system based on your feedback and looking at new ways for you to connect with your friends in the game.”
Today’s announcement ends with reassurance that player progress and content will carry over once MultiVersus comes back online next year. The game will also return with new game modes, features, and content.
