Jax, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao Revealed for Mortal Kombat 11

Classic fighters clash with their contemporary counterparts in Mortal Kombat 11’s latest story trailer.

Sony’s first State of Play showcase wrapped up with a new story trailer revealing classic ‘kombatants’ going head to head in Mortal Kombat 11. The gameplay trailer confirms that series veterans Jax, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao will be joining the playable character roster for MK11 in April.

While the addition of these iconic characters may not come as a surprise to long-time fans, today’s reveal came with a bit of a twist.  In Mortal Kombat 11‘s “Old Skool vs. New Skool” trailer, classic versions of each fighter face off against their modern equivalents for a battle of the ages. You can watch the timelines clash in the trailer below.

In addition to Jax, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao, several other characters received a decent amount of screen time in today’s trailer. Past and present versions of Johnny Cage throw down in a bloody arena. Jacqui Briggs, Scorpion, Raiden, and classic Kitana make appearances in the story trailer as well.

Mortal Kombat 11’s character roster is shaping up nicely. Just days ago, the shadowy kombatant Noob Saibot was unveiled with a reveal trailer during the NetherRealm panel at C2E2. Shang Tsung was also featured, but won’t be playable until the release of the game’s first Kombat Pack DLC.

Mortal Kombat 11 will launch on April 23 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Those who pre-order the game will unlock Shao Kahn and will receive access to the closed beta on PS4 and Xbox One. The Mortal Kombat 11 closed beta starts on March 28 and lasts until March 31.
