Today, Remedy Entertainment announced their plans to remake Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. According to the studio’s latest press release, Remedy has penned a new “development agreement” with Rockstar Games, who will finance and publish the remakes.
“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala. “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”
Remedy will be developing the remakes as a single title for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Rockstar will be in charge of publishing the remakes and will finance their development. The development budget for the project will be “in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production,” according to the press release.
“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said the Founder of Rockstar Games, Sam Houser. “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”
Remedy’s press release concludes by stating that the Max Payne remake project is “currently in the concept development stage,” meaning the studio likely has not started any real development on them just yet.
