It’s been a good few days for fans of Sony’s PlayStation ecosystem and VR enthusiasts. Not only was Sony’s first State of Play event a showcase of VR support for No Man’s Sky, but developer Camouflaj revealed plans for Marvel’s Iron Man VR. Built from the ground up with virtual reality in mind, it is scheduled for release later this year.
Iron Man VR will put gamers into the suit of Tony Stark, as literally as that can be done using a PSVR headset and two Motion controllers. “In Marvel’s Iron Man VR the player, who plays as the genius inventor Tony Stark, confronts ghosts from his past—powerful forces who seek to ruin him and everything he stands for,” says Ryan Payton, Director at Camouflaj, in a PlayStation blog post.
Iron Man VR Announcement Trailer
We have focused on making flying, shooting, and epic Super Hero actions feel natural and powerful on PlayStation VR. When you get your hands on the game later this year, I hope that you, like those on the team who have played early development versions of the game, take off your PS VR headset, smile, and say, “Wow… I feel like Iron Man!”
The announcement trailer was first shown at Sony’s State of Play event on Monday and showcased several in-game mechanics. While the footage shown isn’t final content, it does showcase the influence of Marvel. Fans of the series and universe are likely to line up to buy a PSVR headset. I’m just looking forward to a PSVR game that gets me off the couch. Admittedly, becoming Iron Man is also a very appealing thought. Better make some space in the living room!
Camouflaj will provide more details on Marvel’s Iron Man VR as Sony continues holding State of Play events.
