On Tuesday, developer Heart Machine released the first gameplay trailer for the studio’s upcoming co-op roguelite adventure, Hyper Light Breaker, revealing the game’s fast-paced combat and open world. The gameplay reveal coincides with the seventh anniversary of the studio’s debut title, Hyper Light Drifter. According to the trailer, Hyper Light Breaker will release in Steam Early Access in Fall 2023 for PC, offering Hyper Light fans a chance to try the game as it develops.

Hyper Light Breaker is a 3D co-op adventure set in the Hyper Light Drifter universe. Although the game can be played solo, Hyper Light Breaker offers online cooperative multiplayer for up to three players. As Breakers, players are tasked with entering various procedurally generated biomes to fight bosses known as Crowns in an effort to overthrow the Abyssal King.
“Hyper Light Breaker will bolster the mysterious universe of Hyper Light, with vast, everchanging open worlds with distinct micro-biomes, brutal enemies, a wide array of unique weapons and hidden secrets,” said Alx Preston, Heart Machine creative director and Hyper Light Drifter creator. “We’ve been pushing hard to create an incredible world where players the freedom to explore and play in a way that fits their style. We want to thank our amazing community for their support as we’ve been in open development creating a game we think they will love.”
