The next game in the Grand Theft Auto series is currently in development, Rockstar Games confirmed today. The announcement came as part of a GTA community update that gives an overview of what GTA Online players can look forward to in the year ahead.
Development on the next Grand Theft Auto title is “well underway,” according to Rockstar’s announcement. “With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series,” reads the Newswire post. “With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.”
The community update also outlines what’s in store for Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online in 2022. Both games are set to debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles on March 15 and will feature new graphics, visual upgrades, and other improvements. A standalone version of GTA Online will release for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at launch and will be free for PS5 players for the first three months.
Although many will refer to the next entry as GTA VI, Rockstar has not yet specified a name for the upcoming title. For now, fans will have to keep an eye on the Rockstar Newswire for more updates.
