Visit the Virtual North in Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall

Suffering from Game of Thrones withdrawals already? You can now go beyond the wall in search of the Night King in this new VR experience by HBO.

It’s not even two weeks since Game of Thrones concluded its epic story on HBO and many fans might be suffering from withdrawal symptoms already. Since author George R.R. Martin is taking his sweet time completing the next entry in the book series, virtual reality may offer your next best fix.

Game of Thrones Virtual Reality Experience

HBO has created a virtual reality experience called Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall. It launched today and that is exclusively available on Viveport Infinity. Before Oculus owners stop reading, yes, this experience is also available for you!

HTC created Viveport Infinity as a kind of Netflix for VR. Fortunately, it offers support for Oculus Rift devices for much of its content. Viveport Infinity does offer a free 14-day trial, which should be plenty of time to get frosty north of the wall.

Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall is a room-scale experience that supports the various Vive and Rift headsets and controllers. Players follow in the footsteps of Jon Snow as he braves the cold in search of the Night King’s army. If you remember Season 7’s epic trip, you’ll have some idea of what to expect. The trailer embedded above should also whet your appetite a bit.

Leave the comfort of Eastwatch-by-the-Sea and explore the frozen waste as a battle-hardened member of the Night’s Watch. Face the cold darkness of winter as you follow Jon Snow’s footsteps on his quest to prove the existence of the Night King’s Army.

Use your Ranger skills with a sword to defend yourself against the undead threat as you advance through iconic locations. Be prepared to face impossible odds on your quest as you hack and slash your way out of dangerous situations.

Undoubtedly, most TV or movie crossovers to virtual reality leave a lot to be desired. However, there’s no risk in giving Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall a shot. A bonus side effect for those of us dealing with warmer temperatures may be that we can trick our brains into thinking it’s nice and cold up north.
