Nuclear Winter Battle Royale Mode Heads to Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is getting its very own battle royale game mode, called Nuclear Winter.

During their press conference at E3 2019, Bethesda announced Nuclear Winter, a new battle royale mode coming to Fallout 76. Players can get a sneak peek of the new mode starting tomorrow, June 10. You can check out the full Nuclear Winter gameplay trailer below.

Nuclear Winter will follow the typical battle royale formula, with a wastelands twist. In Nuclear Winter, players fight to become the last player standing as fire slowly consumes the region and closes in toward the center. Rather than the standard 100-player setup, Nuclear Winter will hold up to 51 players per match. Fallout 76 players who are interested in the new battle royale mode can try out Nuclear Winter for free from June 10-17.

Alongside the Nuclear Winter announcement came the reveal of the upcoming Wastelanders update, which hits Fallout 76 this fall. During the presentation, the on-stage presenters from Bethesda were quick to point out that Wastelanders will feature actual NPCs and full dialogue interactions. The lack of NPCs was one of the many criticisms of Fallout 76 at launch.

It appears Bethesda is hoping to get into the good graces of Fallout fans once more. Both the Wastelanders update and Nuclear Winter mode will be available for free for players who own Fallout 76.
