Elite Dangerous: Odyssey PC Alpha Coming in Late March

A new video featuring pre-alpha gameplay shows footage of a full mission playthrough in Odyssey.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is getting a playable alpha at the end of March, according to an announcement today from Frontier Developments. The alpha is scheduled to begin on March 29, 2021. A new video showing pre-alpha gameplay from the upcoming expansion is available below.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Mission Playthrough

The developers have released a new video featuring pre-alpha gameplay footage from one of Odyssey‘s missions. The video shows a team of Commanders as they set out to raid a military outpost. Commanders will be able to choose from a variety of different space suits, weapons, and equipment, as well as tactical gear that can grant certain advantages during missions.

Odyssey, the game’s second expansion, introduces space legs, or feet-on-the-ground gameplay, to Elite Dangerous. Players will be able to walk around and explore planets on foot for the first time, greatly expanding what the game has to offer.

“Introducing the detailed scale that is needed for on-foot gameplay while maintaining the vast distances measured in light years and the myriad missions available to players, Odyssey will greatly augment the already rich world of Elite Dangerous, offering a more personal experience for all Commanders to enjoy in their own way, in addition to the vast galaxy they can already explore,” said Frontier in a recent press release.

The Elite Dangerous: Odyssey PC alpha begins on March 29 and the expansion is available via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Frontier Store. Pre-ordering the expansion will grant access to the upcoming alpha phase. Odyssey will fully launch in late spring 2021. Console players can look forward to going boots-on-the-ground in Odyssey later this year. Stay tuned for more Elite Dangerous news and updates.
