Today, developer Larian Studios announced their year-long plan to release free DLC for Divinity: Original Sin 2. The DLC updates come in the form of ‘Gift Bags,’ which act as a way to patch new free content into the game.
Gift Bags, Not Loot Boxes
This consumer-friendly approach to DLC pokes fun at the loot boxes featured in most other games. Moreover, players don’t need to pay anything to enjoy the Gift Bag content. “Not to be mistaken for Loot Boxes (which are hard, ostensibly containing loot), Gift Bags are soft, and contain gifts,” said Larian in today’s press release. “Each Gift Bag costs exactly no amount of money to players, and will be patched in periodically to each platform.”

The first free Gift Bag for Divinity: Original Sin 2 is out now, a nice surprise for current players. Gift Bag #1 contains an assortment of new faces, facial features, and hairstyles for each character. According to Larian, the next Gift Bag will feature content based on creations from the game’s dedicated modding community. As for future DLC updates, however, players will just have to wait and find out what Larian has in store.
If you already have a character in Divinity: Original Sin 2 and want to enjoy the new DLC, don’t worry. Larian has come up with a way for current players to respec their existing characters using the Magic Mirror. Simply head over to the Lady Vengeance in-game to access the new customization options.
In addition to Gift Bag #1, today’s patch update also came with several gameplay tweaks and balance adjustments on PC. You can read up on the changes in the full patch notes on Steam.
