Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 Delayed Indefinitely

Although no release date had been given for either game, expect them no sooner than 2023.

Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 are delayed for the foreseeable future, according to an announcement on Tuesday from Activision Blizzard. The delay was revealed on a slide shown during the Activision Blizzard Q3 2021 earnings conference call.

The slide, titled Update on Our Pipeline, explains how some Blizzard content planned for 2022 “will benefit from more development time to reach its full potential,” namely Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4.

“While we are still planning to deliver a substantial amount of content from Blizzard next year, we are now planning for a later launch for Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV than originally envisaged.”

“These are two of the most eagerly anticipated titles in the industry, and our teams have made great strides towards completion in recent quarters. But we believe giving the teams some extra time to complete production and continue growing their creative resources to support the titles after launch will ensure that these releases delight and engage their communities for many years into the future.”

Although no official release dates had been announced for either Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4, it seems that neither title will launch in 2022, which means the earliest we could see either game is 2023. No release date or launch window was given during the earnings call, either. However, given the current controversies surrounding Blizzard, the future of both games remains in question.
