Prior to E3 2019, publisher THQ Nordic announced Darksiders: Genesis, the next installment to the Darksiders franchise. The game has been compared to Diablo for its new top-down perspective, a first for the series. A playable demo is available for Darksiders: Genesis on the show floor of E3 2019, and some of that gameplay has since surfaced online.
Darksiders: Genesis is a top-down RPG that follows War and Strife, two of the four horsemen from the game series, as they embark on a mission for The Council. This is the first game to feature Strife as a playable character, making it that much more exciting for Darksiders fans. Moreover, Darksiders: Genesis is the first co-op game in the series. Players can team up with a friend for two-player co-op or swap back and forth between the two characters in solo play.
Darksiders: Genesis E3 2019 Gameplay Demo
Some E3 attendees were able to upload their experience with the demo to YouTube, giving us our first look at the gameplay for Darksiders: Genesis. We’ve included the video from the CerealKillerz below, but there are several other videos floating around from other players as well.
In the gameplay, we get to see how to switch characters in the game, as well as the unique fighting styles of both War and Strife. War retains most of his fighting skills from the first Darksiders game, while Strife utilizes his signature dual pistols as well as a pair of blades for melee combat. Both Strife and War have a handful of special abilities at their disposal as well. The gameplay shows at least two of Strife’s Wrath abilities, Shadow Clone and Caltrops.
We also get to see how Darksiders: Genesis handles puzzles, which are integral to each Darksiders game. There’s a few puzzles that involve levers, bombs, and proper timing, but overall nothing to crazy. Hopefully there’s some creative two-player puzzles in store to challenge all the co-op fans.
Although THQ Nordic has not announced a release date for Darksiders: Genesis, we do know that it is expected to launch sometime in 2019. The game will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Google Stadia.
