Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed a second time and will now release this November, according to a statement today from CD Projekt Red. The news came via a public letter from CDPR co-founder Marcin Iwiński and Head of Studio Adam Badowsku. “Those of you who are familiar with the way we make games know that we won’t ship something that is not ready,” says the letter. You can read the full CDPR statement in the official tweet below.

Unfortunately, delays have been par for the course for Cyberpunk 2077. The game was delayed earlier this year, pushing its release from April to September. The release date change also comes amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Game developers all over the world had to adjust to the rise of COVID-19, and CD Projekt Red is no exception. “The final few months are always the biggest hurdle…this is the first time we’re doing that remotely, so we learn as we go,” explains CDPR Senior Vice President of Business Development, Nichael Nowakowski.
Because of these inevitable hurdles, the hope is that the extra time will be used for ironing out any potential bugs. The game is “finished both content and gameplay-wise,” but reportedly still has bugs that need squashing. “With such an abundance of content and complex systems interweaving with each other, we need to properly go through everything, balance the game mechanics and fix a lot of bugs,” reads today’s letter.
With that, it looks like the independent developer is attempting to make a game that will stand the test of time. Evidence of such confidence comes from the fact that CD Projekt Red has given over their game to journalists for preview. After the Night City Wire event on June 25, journalists will be permitted to publish their previews of the game. The developers hope that these early previews will satiate fans until the game’s launch this November. “We are eager (and quite stressed) to hear their opinions,” said Iwiński and Badowsku in today’s update.
Cyberpunk 2077 will now release on November 19, 2020. The game will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Stadia. Given the delays, Cyberpunk 2077’s new release date will likely coincide with the launch of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles, though neither has a release date yet. Perhaps this is by design. We’ll be sure to update you here as new information is announced, so stay tuned!
