The player base of Cyberpunk 2077 has swelled over the past week, primarily due to the game’s recent Edgerunners update and the corresponding Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Netflix anime. The patch update introduced special Edgerunners-themed game content to Cyberpunk 2077 along with a slew of gameplay adjustments and improvements.
The Edgerunners Netflix series and game update have seemingly revived interest in Cyberpunk 2077, as more than one million people have jumped into Night City each day this week, according to the game’s official Twitter account.
“Each day of this week Night City has been visited by 1 million players, both new and returning,” reads the tweet. “We wanted to use this opportunity to thank you for being with us and playing the game. Thanks, Chooms!”
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners premiered on September 13 and has been received positively overall, breathing new life into a game that has certainly seen its share of struggles since launch. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently within the top ten most played games on Steam based on player count, according to Steam.
Phantom Liberty, the first and only expansion coming to Cyberpunk 2077, will arrive in 2023. Players will delve into a new part of Night City alongside Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand. Phantom Liberty will release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles as well as PC and Stadia. However, the expansion will not release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
