Borderlands 3 has officially been confirmed, complete with an action-packed trailer full of guns, psychos, and familiar faces. Borderlands developer Gearbox announced the game during their panel at PAX East 2019, where the developer trailer was first shown. You can watch the colorful mayhem in the video below.
After yesterday’s “Mask of Mayhem” teaser video, today’s announcement really comes as no surprise. However, it’s nice to see that the new Borderlands game is actually Borderlands 3 and not some sort of prequel or spinoff.
Borderlands 3 Reveal Trailer
The Borderlands 3 trailer contains everything a Borderlands fan would expect. There’s a new team of Vault Hunters, each with their own unique abilities. There’s also gigantic mechs and tons of new weapons, with plenty of loot to collect. According to the trailer, there’s “over one billion guns” to be exact.
We also see a few familiar faces throughout the trailer, including Maya, Lilith, Mordecai, Ellie, Marcus, and a grown-up Tiny Tina. Brick provides an impromptu sax solo as well. Of course, it wouldn’t quite be a Borderlands game without Claptrap, who offers a bit of breakdancing towards the end.
Borderlands GOTY Edition
Along with the Borderlands 3 reveal, Gearbox also announced the Borderlands Game of the Year Edition, which launches on April 3, 2019. If you own the first Borderlands on Steam, you’ll get the GOTY Edition for free.
The new Borderlands GOTY Edition will include all four add-on packs and will feature a series of gameplay adjustments and visual upgrades, such as a new minimap and improved looting. Gearbox is also integrating the SHiFT rewards program to the GOTY edition, with additional Golden Keys being rewarded to players who played Borderlands 2 or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on PC.
Gearbox has not announced a release date yet for Borderlands 3, nor have they revealed which platforms it will be for. Stay tuned for more Borderlands 3 updates here, or visit the official website for details.
