Electronic Arts is gearing up to sunset several Battlefield games next month, the company announced on Tuesday. The games that are on the chopping block are Battlefield 1943, Bad Company 1, and Bad Company 2.
The three Battlefield titles will be removed from digital storefronts on April 28, 2023 and will no longer be available for purchase following that date. A full shutdown of online services for these games is scheduled for December 8, 2023. The single-player campaigns and offline features in Bad Company 1 & 2 will still be available, however.
“While these titles hold a special place in our heart, we’re now looking forward to creating new memories alongside you as we shift our focus towards our current and future Battlefield experiences,” states the official announcement. “With this announcement we also want to take a moment today to reflect on our time with Battlefield 1943 and, Bad Company 1 & 2. We share amazing memories of not only their development, but also playing them alongside you.”
EA’s initial announcement included plans to sunset Mirror’s Edge as well, but the action-platformer was reportedly listed in error. “An earlier version of this announcement included Mirror’s Edge,” reads a recent tweet from the official Battlefield account. “That was an error. We currently have no plans to remove Mirror’s Edge from digital storefronts.”
