New Baldur’s Gate 3 Gameplay Shows Latest Content Changes

Changes to Baldur's Gate 3's initiative and inspiration systems are among the gameplay changes made on the road to early access.

Last week, Larian Studios announced their plans to release their upcoming RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 into early access this August. Since then, the developers have revealed new gameplay showing how far the game has come since PAX East 2020. Baldur’s Gate 3 Game Director Swen Vincke kicked of yesterday’s D&D Live 2020 livestream with new gameplay highlighting the game’s various content changes. You can watch the hour-long Baldur’s Gate 3 preview in the video below.

Larian has adjusted various systems in Baldur’s Gate 3 over the last few months. Among them were changes made to the game’s Initiative system. The changes make it so that characters in the player’s party with similar individual initiatives can now be grouped together. This opens a new world of possibilities for players to combo the skills of their party members.

The game’s Inspiration system also made its debut during the Baldur’s Gate 3 livestream. Players can earn Inspiration Points for finding unique solutions to problems while playing. Inspiration Points are particularly valuable, as they allow players to re-roll one of their dice rolls.

Vincke also revealed how the world will interact differently with your character depending on certain factors. Non-player characters will take into consideration your past decisions and actions, and may treat your character differently as a result.

If all goes according to plan, Baldur’s Gate 3 will be available in early access this August. Larian will continue to develop and adjust the game based on player feedback during early access. Stay tuned for more Baldur’s Gate 3 updates.
