Developer Larian Studios has unleashed more information about Baldur’s Gate 3 ahead of its early access debut. For their eighth community update, Larian has revealed new details regarding character creation in Baldur’s Gate 3. This includes some of the race, class, and background options that will be available to players during early access.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Character Creation

Shaping your character’s story in Baldur’s Gate 3 begins with character creation. Who you are and how you look can influence how other NPCs will interact with you. For example, playing a character of a rarer race such as the Drow can garner unique reactions from NPCs upon meeting them for the first time. These are things to keep in mind when creating your character in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Larian based their character creation designs on 3D scans of actors and models. Each scan has been carefully crafted to become the game’s base character heads. Because of this, Baldur’s Gate 3 will offer 150 heads to choose from across the various races. “When the cinematic dialogues were introduced for BG3, we realized that we needed to make a huge quality leap for the character art,” explains Alena Dubrovina, Lead Character Artist at Larian Studios. “We wanted to make characters look their best and put the bar very high. We had to be innovative to make such a large range of heads at the quality we wanted.”

The early access version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will offer 16 races and subraces to choose from. Players will also select from the following six classes: Cleric, Fighter, Rogue, Ranger, Wizard, and Warlock.
