A free update for space sandbox adventure game Astroneer is now available for all players on PC and consoles, developer System Era Softworks announced today. The new “Awakening” update concludes the story of Astroneer thus far and is the 25th free update for the game since its launch. A trailer for the Awakening update is available below.

In Awakening, players are tasked with an important mission that will “take them to the heart of the Sylva System itself.” The update also includes some bug fixes and UX improvements such as printer control panel changes and travel notifications.
Although the Awakening update marks the end of Astroneer’s narrative campaign, it is not the last update the game will receive, as the developers have more content planned for later this year. In February, players who log into Astroneer will receive a special cosmetic item to commemorate the game’s fourth anniversary. Those looking for more stories set within the Astroneer universe can pre-order the upcoming graphic novel Astroneer: Countdown, which is slated for March 2023.
