PlayStation Reveals New PlayStation Plus Subscription Tiers

PlayStation’s competitor to Game Pass will feature a library with more than 700 games.

On Tuesday, PlayStation officially revealed the next iteration of its PlayStation Plus subscription service. Previously codenamed Spartacus, the competitor to Xbox Game Pass will combine the benefits of both PS Plus and PS Now into a new subscription service. Jim Ryan, the President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, offers a breakdown of the changes coming to the subscription service in the latest PlayStation Blog post.

PlayStation Plus: Essential, Extra, Premium

According to the post, the upgraded PS Plus service will relaunch in June with three new membership tiers for customers to choose from. The basic PS Plus membership is being renamed PlayStation Plus Essential and features all of the benefits currently offered to PS Plus subscribers. The price for PS Plus Essential also remains the same at $9.99 USD per month or $59.99 USD per year.

The middle tier option is PlayStation Plus Extra, which adds up to 400 downloadable PS4 and PS5 games on top of all of the benefits from the Essential tier. The PS Plus Extra tier costs $14.99 USD per month or $99.99 USD per year.

PlayStation Plus Premium is the highest tier of the new subscription service and is the closest to rival Game Pass. At this tier, members will receive all of the benefits of the previous tiers along with up to 340 additional games from PS3, PS2, and PSP generations. While there will be download options for some games, the PS3 titles will only be available via cloud streaming.

Cloud streaming will be offered for games in the Extra and Premium tiers where PS Now is currently available. PlayStation Now users will be automatically transitioned to the Premium tier at no additional cost at launch. Select game trials will also be available at this tier for players looking to demo certain titles before buying. The price for PS Plus Premium is $17.99 USD per month or $119.99 USD per year.

At launch, the new PlayStation Plus service will include several triple-A titles for the higher tier members. Launch titles include Death Stranding, God of War, Returnal, Mortal Kombat 11, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
