Gamescom 2021 officially kicked off on Wednesday with Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley. The two-hour showcase featured world premieres, gameplay reveals, and various game announcements.
If you missed the start of this year’s Gamescom event, don’t worry. Below, we’ve highlighted all of the major game trailers and announcements shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2021.
Halo Infinite Release Date Confirmed
Microsoft confirmed that Halo Infinite will release later this year on December 8, 2021. The game will be coming to Xbox consoles and PC. A cinematic intro trailer for Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer component was shown during Gamescom 2021’s Opening Night Live, which you can watch above. Microsoft is also developing a special Halo-themed Xbox Series X console and Master Chief-inspired Xbox Elite Wireless controller, both of which are available for pre-order.
Firaxis Developing Marvel’s Midnight Suns
XCOM developer Firaxis surprised fans with the announcement of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, the company’s first foray into the Marvel universe. The game is described as a “tactical RPG set in the darker side of the Marvel Universe.” Marvel’s Midnight Suns will be coming to consoles and PC in March 2022. The game will feature superheroes from The Avengers, X-Men, and Runaways, including Wolverine, Iron Man, Ghost Rider, Blade, and more.
Horizon Forbidden West Delayed
Horizon Forbidden West has been delayed to 2022, confirming recent reports. The game was initially expected to release this holiday season. Horizon Forbidden West will now release on February 18, 2022 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. Developer Guerilla Games has also released a new patch for Horizon Zero Dawn that allows for 60fps on PS5.
Saints Row Reboot Coming in 2022
Open-world action game Saints Row is getting a reboot. The new Saints Row, which is also simply titled Saints Row, is scheduled to release on February 25, 2022 for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A new announce trailer for the upcoming Saints Row reboot debuted during Opening Night Live and is available above.
Call of Duty: Vanguard First Gameplay Revealed
Gamescom 2021’s Opening Night Live featured the debut of the first campaign gameplay footage for Call of Duty: Vanguard, which releases on November 5, 2021. Set in Stalingrad, the gameplay demo follows the character Polina Petrova, who is voiced and portrayed by Laura Bailey.
Death Stranding: Director’s Cut Gets New Features
Kojima Productions revealed a slew of new features coming to Death Stranding: Director’s Cut on PS5 in an extended preview trailer that you can watch above. Among the new gameplay features coming to the PS5 version are a new Buddy Bot companion and a new firing range.
Cult of the Lamb Announced
If the idea of starting your own cult and building up a loyal following of woodland critters sounds appealing, then you’ll want to check out Cult of the Lamb. It’s both adorable and disturbing, and I’m certainly here for it. Keep an eye out for Cult of the Lamb on PC and consoles in 2022.
