Today, Xbox and Discord announced Discord Voice, a new feature that will allow players to chat with Discord friends on Xbox. Access to the upcoming feature is currently limited to Xbox Insiders. This highly requested feature comes a little over a year after PlayStation announced their partnership with the same popular VoIP messaging platform.
Discord Voice will give gamers on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One the ability to connect to integrated Discord voice channels via the Xbox mobile app. There is no need to download an app directly to the console.
In order to use Discord Voice, Xbox users must first link their Xbox and Discord accounts and have the Xbox mobile app downloaded to their phone. Discord Voice calls can then be transferred over to connected Xbox consoles via the Xbox mobile app. Discord Voice integration is still somewhat limited, however. Since there is no Discord app available on Xbox consoles, there is no way to join Discord voice calls directly from the consoles.
The long-awaited chat feature isn’t available to everyone just yet. Microsoft is rolling out Discord Voice to select Xbox Insiders today and will expand access to the feature in the coming weeks. If you are one of the Xbox Insiders lucky enough to have access to this feature and still need to connect your Discord and Xbox accounts, an easy way to get started is to scan the QR code that appears in the Parties & Chats section under “Try Discord Voice on Xbox” and follow the steps to link your accounts.
Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC users can download the Xbox Insider Hub application today to get in on all the Discord chatting action.
