Pets are the latest addition to Sea of Thieves and pirates all over the seas want to know how to get one of these furry friends. Depending on your stance of in-game purchases, getting a pet in Sea of Thieves is either going to bring some joy or cause some annoyance.
How to Get a Pet in Sea of Thieves
The only way to get a pet in Sea of Thieves is to purchase it from the Pirate Emporium. The Pirate Emporium is the new premium shop that Rare uses for microtransaction. Any purchase that is made from the store requires you to use real-world money, which goes to help Rare continue developing and supporting Sea of Thieves.
The steps for getting a pet are as follows:
- Load up Sea of Thieves
- Select the Pirate Emporium from the main menu or find the shop in-game
- Purchase Ancient Coins using real-world money
- Look through the various pets on offer and buy the pet you like
There are currently monkeys and parrots on offer as pets. Within these two species are two varieties of animals: Capuchins and barbarys for the monkeys and macaws and parakeets for the parrots. To add even more variety, each of these has five different colors you can choose from. You’re spoilt for choice!
For those that don’t want to spend money, check out our guide on how to get Ancient Coins. There are two other options to consider, though they are a little more time-consuming than simply purchasing a bundle of Ancient Coins.
Now that you know how to get a pet in Sea of Thieves, all you need to do now is decide what pet to purchase! Keep in mind, Rare could very well add more pets in the future. We’d love to see a pet crab and octopus, and of course a cat. Take a look at the Guide Stash Sea of Thieves guide page for even more helpful articles!
