If you are looking to complete all the Hunting Requests in Red Dead Redemption 2, you will need to hunt woodpeckers. There are two different kinds of woodpecker that inhabit New Hanover, the Red-bellied Woodpecker, and the Pileated Woodpecker. You will only need one of these to complete the Hunting Request.

While these majestic creatures can be found throughout the wooded regions of New Hanover, one spot, in particular, has a good population of these woodpeckers. You will need to make your way to the Dakota River, preferably near Painted Sky just east of Strawberry.

The weapon you will want to use is the Bow with Small Game Arrows since you need a Pristine Woodpecker Carcass. While riding your horse or running on foot, you will want to stay near the trees and scare as many birds as possible. Make sure to use Dead Eye to take them down and hunt for woodpeckers early in the morning. Woodpeckers are small and you may need to set up camp to retry if you don’t get one right away.

Once you have your Pristine Woodpecker, make sure to turn it in at any Post Office so you can continue on to the next Hunting Request. You’ll be tasked to hunt several other birds, so make sure you are well stocked with Small Game Arrows. Make sure to take a look for even more guides in our Red Dead Redemption 2 archives.
