Starting in Strawberry, you need to ride Northwest to the Big Valley to locate the mine where the treasure awaits. Here is where you will discover a mine that has a pile of rocks blocking the path to venture further in.
Luckily, a plunger and dynamite just so happen to be located near the blocked path, so you can blow it up. Upon blowing up the rocks, you will come across the body of a man who has perished while working in the mines.
Once you have the Mining helmet, Arthur will be free from using the lantern in dark places. Freeing up a hand and no longer requiring Arthur to put the lantern away and then draw a weapon will save a few seconds. This could mean life or death in certain situations.
