Fortnite wrapped up its big Loot Lake event over the weekend, signaling the end of Season 8. Season 9 is on its way in the days to come. We’ve got details on the Fortnite Season 9 start date and what you can expect from the upcoming season.
When Does Fortnite Season 9 Start?
As per usual, Epic Games has begun to release teaser images leading up to the start of the new season. The Fortnite Twitter account tweeted the first Season 9 teaser on Monday, May 6. The tagline for the teaser says, “The Future is Unknown. 5.9.2019,” and includes an image of a futuristic-looking character wearing a helmet. We’ve included the tweet below so you can see it for yourself.

So, if you were curious about the exact start date for Fortnite Season 9, the tweet says it all. Season 9 will begin on Thursday, May 9, 2019. Based on previous seasons, we can expect to see at least two more teaser images released in the days leading up to the launch of Season 9.
Update 5/7/19: Here is the second teaser image for Season 9. While the first teaser seemed to outline the letter “N” in blue, the second teaser’s colors form an “E”. There’s also a partial image of a new character in some sort of helmet and suit. The “Future” theme seems all but confirmed at this point, so perhaps players can look forward to donning some high-tech spacesuits next season. We’ll find out soon enough.
The Future is Bright.

Loot Lake Unvaulting Event
Over the weekend, Fortnite held a massive in-game event to signify the end of Season 8. The Unvaulting Event took place in Battle Royale mode in Fortnite at Loot Lake, where a huge countdown timer once hovered. At the end of the countdown, a massive gateway opened up in the ground at Loot Lake, inviting players to jump in to the glowing abyss.
Once inside, players found themselves in a vast room, where a series of pillars stood containing various vaulted items in Fortnite. Players could swing their pickaxe at the item they wished to unvault, slowly breaking the pillars as a group effort. Items like the Stormwing and Infinity Blade were up for grabs, but ultimately the players voted to unvault the Drum Gun.
Eventually, players launched back out of the vault and returned to the Battle Royale map, only to find that the volcano had started to erupt. Molten rocks launched from the volcano and destroyed both Retail Row and Tilted Towers. Players had been anticipating the demise of Tilted for several seasons now, so it seems their wish has been granted. In case you missed it, you can watch the full Unvaulting Event in the video down below by KingJoe83 on YouTube.
Alternatively, Epic has also made it possible to replay the video file of the event in-game with a quick download. Check out the tweet below for details. If you were able to queue up for the Unvaulting Event playlist in Fortnite last weekend, then you can look forward to receiving the Arcana Glider in the days ahead.
