Catch Goldstein, the Largemouth Bass – Call of the Wild: The Angler

This guide will help you catch Goldstein, the Largemouth Bass in Call of the Wild: The Angler.

Call of the Wild: The Angler recently introduced legendary fish for players to catch. These fish are one step above a Diamond, making them highly sought after for veteran players looking for a fresh challenge. In this guide, we’re going to help you catch Goldstein, the Largemouth Bass.

How Legendary Fish Work

If the fish icon near the bottom is purple, there is a legendary fish available for you to catch on that reserve.

Each week one legendary fish will rotate into the game, and only one is available for that week. If you catch it the first day it’s available, you’ll need to wait until the following week when a different legendary fish rotates into the game.

How do you know which legendary fish is active? Well, that’s tricky because the game doesn’t tell you which one is currently active, it will only tell you if a legendary fish is active at the reserve selection screen. When you mouse over the reserve where you want to go fishing you’ll see an icon of a fish below it. If that icon is purple, there is a legendary fish available for you to catch. You won’t be able to catch a legendary fish if this icon is greyed out. This icon will be grey if you’ve already caught the legendary fish active on that reserve for that week.

When you enter the reserve, a message will also pop up to tell you if a legendary fish is active for you to catch. If you don’t see that message, you’ll need to wait until the next one rotates in.

If you want to know which legendary fish is active, the best way to find that out is to join the Call of the Wild: The Angler Discord channel. You can ask someone in there, or visit the Trophy Gallery text channel. Folks will be showing off their catches so you’ll know very quickly which legendary is active.

How to Catch Goldstein, the Largemouth Bass

Goldstein can be found in multiple lakes in Golden Ridge Reserve. The ones known are marked in this image.

Players can find Goldstein in Lake Tourmaline, which is northeast of Bear Lake, the largest lake within the borders of Golden Ridge Reserve. You can catch Goldstein from various locations on that lake, most notably on the northeast and southwest shores. Goldstein can also be found near The Gravy Bubble Trailhead in the southern part of Bear Lake. I’ve marked the spots on the map that this legendary Largemouth Bass can be found.

To catch Goldstein, you can use a variety of equipment, but the consensus on the lure is a Hook Size 4 Frog, and that’s what I caught him with. If what you’re after is a huge fight, consider using the developer-suggested Spira Baitcasting Rod, Director Baitcasting Reel, and 15 kg line. However, I went a bit bigger with the following:

  • Graureiher Baitcasting Rod (50 kg)
  • Mediator Baitcasting Reel (20 kg)
  • Braided Line (25 kg)
  • Frog (Hook Size 4)

You can look at the screenshot to see where I was located, and I placed a custom marker where I cast my lure to catch Goldstein. However, don’t be afraid to move around a little if you aren’t having any luck. You aren’t supposed to be able to catch a legendary fish on your first try. You can also search YouTube and find videos of where other folks caught Goldstein and what equipment they used to do it.
