How to Upgrade Harv’s Island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Find out how to get vendors to set up shop on Harv’s Island permanently in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

As part of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update, players can now upgrade Harv’s island with a new shopping plaza. Most of the shop vendors are NPCs that already visit player islands throughout the week, such as Redd and Saharah, along with several others. Upgrading Harv’s Island adds shops permanently, meaning players won’t have to wait for them to appear during the week. Read on to find out how to go about upgrading Harv’s island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Before you hop on a plane to Harv’s, you will want to make sure you’ve achieved a 3-Star Island Rating or better. You will also need to complete the Photopia studio tutorial in Harv’s house if you haven’t done so already. Head to the airport and say to Orville “I wanna fly!” and “Visit Harv’s Island” to get started.

Speak to Harvey & Harriet

When the necessary requirements are met, Harvey will send a letter inviting the player to come speak to him and Harriet about a new business venture. The pair want to create a co-op market right there on the island that will feature permanent shops run by familiar visitors and traveling merchants. They just need some help raising funds to get things off the ground. Fly to Harv’s Island and speak to Harriet and Harv in the new plaza area to get the details.

Donate Bells to Unlock Shops

After chatting with Harvey and Harriet, players will be free to interact with various Lloids stationed throughout the plaza. Players can unlock new shops and vendors by donating Bells to the Lloids. Each Lloid will give a brief description of the shop they are raising funds for, and players are free to choose which shops to invest in first.

The shops available on Harv’s Island are either merchants or NPCs that provide a service to the player in some way. Below is a list of all eight shops players can unlock on Harv’s Island and what each one offers.

  1. Harriet – New hairstyles for free.
  2. Katrina – Daily fortune reading.
  3. Tortimer – Allows access to home storage from plaza.
  4. Leif – Plant shop and weeding service.
  5. Saharah – Mysterious wallpapers, flooring, and rugs.
  6. Reese & Cyrus – Rare furniture customizations.
  7. Redd – Art vendor and raffle.
  8. Kicks – Shoes, socks, and bags.

There are a few things to keep in mind when upgrading Harv’s Island:

  • Each shop costs 100,000 Bells to unlock (except Harriet).
  • Fully funded shops will be ready and built by the next day.
  • Donations close for the day after a shop is fully funded.
  • Only one shop can be built per day.
  • Item stock for shops will refresh every Monday.

After the fundraising begins, you may notice an ABD machine just outside of the entrance to the plaza on Harv’s Island. This allows players to conveniently access and withdraw funds from their savings without having to travel back home.

Once you’ve started fundraising for your favorite shops, it is only a matter of time (and Bells) before you will have the whole co-op market up and running on Harv’s Island.
