How to Get Sugarcane
There are a couple different ways to get sugarcane in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Both methods require some time and patience, but ultimately will be worth the effort.
Buy From Leif

Getting sugarcane is as easy as waiting for Leif to swing by the island with his mobile garden shop. To get sugarcane, simply speak to Leif when he is visiting and check out what’s for sale. If you’re lucky, Leif will be selling sugarcane starts for 280 Bells each. They can also be purchased in bulk sets of five. Leif will have two edible crops for sale each time he visits, so be sure to check in with Leif if you’re looking to get wheat or vegetables.

We recommend investing the Bells to unlock Leif on Harv’s Island. This will allow Leif to set up a permanent shop in Harv’s plaza that can be visited anytime. Leif’s garden shop costs 100,000 Bells to unlock and will be ready the next day after being funded. Leif will refresh his stock once per week on Harv’s Island, so be prepared to wait a few days if he’s not offering what you’re looking for.
Find on Mystery Islands
There is another way to get sugarcane in New Horizons that doesn’t involve Leif. Sugarcane and other crops can be found on mystery islands that Kapp’n takes you to on his boat tour. There’s no guarantee that any sugarcane crops will be available on these mystery islands, and since you can only take one tour per day, it may take a while before you find sugarcane in this way. Not to mention each tour costs 1,000 Nook Miles. Be sure to bring a shovel to dig up any crops you do find, though.
Once you’ve obtained some sugarcane starts, all you need to do is plant them in some dirt and wait for them to grow. Like pumpkins, sugarcane will take several days to reach full maturity. Be sure to water your sugarcane plants daily to ensure the highest crop yield.
