Cooking is one of the many new features to arrive in Animal Crossing: New Horizons via the newly released 2.0 update. Players can now put their kitchens to good use by whipping up some tasty recipes. Follow the steps below to learn how to cook food in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
How to Cook Food

Update Your DIY Recipes App
Before you can begin cooking in New Horizons, you must first update an app on your NookPhone. You will need to purchase the new Be a Chef! DIY Recipes+ update for 2,000 Nook Miles at the Nook Stop kiosk inside Resident Services. Doing so will upgrade your phone’s DIY Recipes app with new food and drink recipes.

Craft a Kitchen
Once you’ve obtained the Be a Chef! DIY Recipes+ upgrade, the next step is to build a kitchen to cook food in. The Stonework Kitchen is a great place to start, as it should now be available in your DIY Recipes. However, you can prepare food using other kitchen items as well, such as the Kitchen Island or Gas Range.

The Stonework Kitchen DIY recipe calls for the following materials:
- 30 Stone
- 15 Clay
- 10 Iron Nuggets
Before you can get cooking, you are going to need some ingredients to cook with. To obtain cooking ingredients, simply collect basic food items you would normally run into, such as vegetables, fruit, mushrooms, pumpkins, or fish.
With a Stonework Kitchen constructed, some ingredients in hand, and recipes in mind, you are now ready to start cooking. Interact with the kitchen and prepare a dish how you would any other craftable item. Eating prepared food will add points to your Stamina, though you can also set out your creations for others to enjoy.
How to Get Cooking Recipes

Upon unlocking the Be a Chef! DIY Recipes+ app update, several new recipes will become available. To get more recipes, start by heading over to Nook’s Cranny to buy the pack of Basic Cooking Recipes for 4,980 Bells. Recipes can also be found in bottles washed up on the shore or given to you by villagers.
The 2.0 update for New Horizons is jam packed with new features, with plenty still being discovered. Check out our other Animal Crossing: New Horizons coverage for more tips and tutorials, such as how to unlock Brewster and The Roost.
